Shin Megami Tensei V – New characters from Bethel branches in other countries
The video started by introducing the concept that Bethel has several branches in different countries, each with a leading Demon.
You have Khonsu (voiced by Nobuyuki Hiyama) from the Egypt branch of Bethel. From the India branch of Bethel, we have Vasuki (voiced by Fuminori Komatsu). From the Greece branch, we have Zeus (voiced by Subaru Kimura). And from the North Europe branch, we’ve got Odin (voiced by Atsushi Miyauchi). Each one of them have their own ambitions and plans, so we’re bound to clash with some of them.
New SMT V gameplay and game systems explained
Next, we got to see new gameplay focusing on the exploration of Da’at. In particular, there are save points you can find at Leylines, and you can use them to access the Cadaver’s Hollow.
This is basically a shop owned by NPC Gustave, where you exchange Macca for items or sell loot. You can also find Gustave’s pawns, Miman, hidden in Da’at. We can get rewards and Glory from finding the Miman.
You can also find treasure, items, and even fossilized giant Demons in Da’at; These are remnants from a war a decade ago. These will net you bonus EXP for the Demons in your team.
Mitama Demons are back in SMT V, they’re rare Demons who drop EXP, items, and Macca. You can also encounter giant red obstacles, the Abscesses (Magatsuka in Japanese, much easier to pronounce). They spawn powerful enemies, but if you manage to destroy them and the Abscess, you’ll get new Miracles. Check our past coverage to learn more about Glory and Miracles.
Certain specific Demons like Amanozako, a Demon introduced on Twitter with character designer Masayuki Doi, can also help you as a quest navigator, by indicating items on the map.
Next, the protagonist can also accept Quests from Demons. Complete these Quests for rewards.
Dungeons and game difficulty
Lastly, we had the usual Q&A corner with messages from fans. This time, we learned about the three difficulties in Shin Megami Tensei V: Casual, Normal, and Hard. You can switch between Casual or Normal during the game, but you can only pick Hard from the beginning. If you go down from Hard, you can’t go back to it. An additional difficulty called Safety, just like in Persona 5 The Royal, will be added as free DLC at release.
The last part of the video focused on the shop-specific preorder goods of SMT V in Japan.
Note that on the Japanese version of the September 2021 Nintendo Direct, Shin Megami Tensei V also got a short trailer. You could see our protagonist Nahobino in a dungeon, with gimmicks that made him jump from one platform to another. It confirmed that just like Persona 5, Shin Megami Tensei V has actual dungeons with dungeon design and gimmicks.
Shin Megami Tensei V will be out on November 11 in Japan and November 12 worldwide, you can always reach m on Twitter to chat about the game @A_iyane07. Don’t forget the Japanese Atlustube channel is releasing a new demon introduction video every day. Keep an eye on the Japanese Twitter of the Megaten series too.
